Death
I haven't had a death post in a long time, but this is an interesting piece from the Revealer on how Gonzales v. Oregon is being (mis)represented in the media. And how the focus on physician-assisted suicide misses the real question: how do we and the people we love prepare to die.
Small town life
Another Hummer. This one with a disabled person placard.
Creep out time
The Chairman of the Christian Coalition in Oregon, Louis Beres, has been accused of molesting some women back when they were kids. Editor and Publisher describes the story, published in the Oregonian and also followed-up here. Here's a real creepy part:
Out of the mouths of
Solvij said, "When you get to be 100 years old you had better be very wary, because you could die just about any day."
Loaves and goldfishes
You'd think people might figure out that mixing "Fear Factor" and youth ministry could be a bit of a problem. The folks at the First Assembly of God Church in Alabama thought that swallowing live goldfish would be a great way to face their fears.
Martin said the ministry's participants are between the ages of 14 and 21 and that they had to get their parents to sign a waiver to be involved.
"Through this ministry, kids are surrendering their lives to Jesus and developing a deeper relationship with Jesus," he said.
It also seems strange to me that the grand prize winner of this series of activities gets $250 cash. What would Jesus say?
I couldn't have said it better
Why does Alexander Hamilton hate America?
Stranger than fiction
There's a phone poll up on ABC News about what people thought were the causes of Hurricane Katrina. There are charts of the religious and demographic breakdowns.
The strangest response was in the "non-religious" category. Apparently, 17% of the non-religious think that the hurricanes were a "deliberate act of God."
Lord of the prance
Amusing review of Michael Flatley's new show, which is all about Irish history.
Small town life
It's kind of scary and I hope it's not a trend. I've noticed an old couple (over 70's) driving a Hummer. OK, how could I not notice them?
